Santonio Holmes Now A Jet

Last Sunday, former Superbowl MVP Santonio Holmes was traded from the Pittsburgh Steelers to the New York Jets for a fifth round pick. After the trade, Holmes was also suspended for the first four games of the season for violating the NFL drug policy.

This deal surprised people all over sports talk radio, but it was a great deal for both teams. The Steelers got rid of a guy who had a lot of off the field problems and was starting to become a distraction. The Jets acquired a talented receiver who can put up big numbers and potentially be their number one guy.

I believe this trade makes the Jets that much deeper. With the acquisition of players like Ladainian Tomlinson and Antonio Cromartie this off season, I think the Jets are the team to beat in the AFC east.

Brandon Marshall Gets Dealt to the Dolphins

Sports talk radio personalities and listeners in South Florida got really excited yesterday when they heard that Brandon Marshall got traded to the Dolphins. The Dolphins had to give up a 2nd round pick this year and a 2nd round pick next year, but it was well worth it. Marshall also signed a 4-year, $47.5 million contract with the Dolphins, making him the highest paid receiver in NFL history.

Marshall is just what the Dolphins needed. He is a big, physical wide reviver that will put up big numbers every season. He will draw a lot of double teams and make guys like Davone Bess, Greg Camarillo, and Brian Hartline that much better. This could be the year that Chad Henne has his coming out party.

The Dolphins have also taken a chance with this trade. Marshall has had some problems off the field, but Dolphins Executive Vice President of Football Operations Bill Parcells is not worried.

The Dolphins deserve a lot of credit for making this move and Dolphin fans should be very excited for this upcoming season.

Joe West Takes Aim at the Yankee and Redsox Rivalry

MLB umpire Joe West got the attention of people all over sports talk radio when he said the Yankees and Red Sox take too long to play. He also said, "It's pathetic and embarrassing."

Joe West was way out of line with his comments. He gets paid to umpire these games and he should keep his mouth shut. He is a veteran umpire and he should know how to act like a professional.

Players and executives were also taken back by these comments. According to ESPN''s Buster Olney, they said he should maybe call more strikes to move the game along.

Action hasn't been taken against West by the MLB. I don't think he will get suspended and I believe the MLB will handle this issue behind closed doors.

Big Ben Will Not Face Charges

This past Monday, people all over sports talk radio were curious to see information Georgia District Attorney Fred Bright was going to give us about the alleged sexual assault case against Ben Roethlisberger.

During the press conference, he said the accuser had "bruising and swelling" in her private area, but there was no evidence of rape. Bright also said male DNA was found from the tests, but it was so small that it could not produce a "profile."

In the end, Bright said he could not prove anything beyond a reasonable doubt and significant questions persisted.

Nobody knows what happened in Milledgeville, Georgia on March 8th. For all we know, the accuser could have suffered those injuries from another person and tried to blame it on Roethlisberger

Even though Ben wasn't charged, he needs to realize who he is. He is the star quarterback of the Pittsburgh Steelers and he can't be hanging around in a night club with college kids.

Ben met with NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell on Wednesday and we will have to wait and see if any disciplinary action will be taken against him. I wouldn't be surprised if Roethlisberger gets suspended because Goodell has been known to come down hard on players who have conducted themselves poorly.

The Sales Side of Radio

A few weeks ago, ESPN 760's Ken LaVicka gave me a whole speech about knowing the sales side of radio. Ken told me being familiar with sales could be your ticket into the door. He said if you know sales, you have an advantage over a lot of other people that are trying to make it in sports radio.

He preached to me to always try to make connections with potential business partners. He said if you see a potential business partner, you should be personable with them and get their contact information for the sales office. Ken told me it will benefit the station and it will make you look good.

Ken is also the the play-by-play voice for FAU football and basketball and co-hosts the Sunday Sports from 10:00am - 1:05pm.

Jerry Jones Slams Bill Parcells and Tim Tebow

This video that appeared on Deadspin yesterday got the attention of sports talk radio people in Dallas......



I think Jerry's comments were uncalled for. Bill Parcells is the reason why the Cowboys are where they are today. Also, Tim Tebow has made a lot of changes to his mechanics and I believe he could be a good NFL quarterback.

Jerry has to be more careful next time because you are always being watched. Anybody with a iPhone or Blackberry can easily take a video without you knowing it.

Saturday Sports Page on ESPN 760

Mike Goldstein hosts the Saturday Sports Page from 9:00am - 12:00noon on ESPN 760. Brian Rowitz produces the show and joins in sometimes. Mike does a lot of remote broadcasts and this past Saturday he did his show at the 7th Inning Stretch in the Boca Town Center. He had a number of guests which included former Yankee Jim Leyritz, Florida Panthers play-by-play announcer Randy Moller, and Palm Beach Post Dolphins Reporter Edgar Thompson.

This Saturday, Mike will host his show at the PNC Bank on 500 Linton Blvd. in Delray Beach. The ESPN 760 Street Team will also be there interacting with the crowd and giving away prizes.

Chan Ho Park Didn't Pitch Well Due to Diarrhea

Yesterday on the Power Sports Hour, we played the audio from the Chan Ho Park diarrhea video on YouTube. In front of a bunch of reporters, he told them he pitched poorly in his first appearance against the Red Sox because he had diarrhea. Park was being very serious but the reporters were cracking up because he was being so nonchalant about it. Mariano Rivera even had a grin on his face.

We also thought the video was very funny. Park appears to hold nothing back and it seems that he will have no problem dealing with the the New York media this season.

Jimmy Rollins Heads to the DL

Last Monday, Phillies shortstop Jimmy Rollins hurt his right calf while he was warming up for a game. This caused sports radio listeners in Philadelphia to become very concerned because he gets that lineup going and is a great leader on the field.

According to a ESPN.com article, Rollins will be put on the 15 day DL with a "mild to moderate strain." The article also says he is "expected to miss 2 to 4 weeks."

Even though Rollins is expected to be out for 2 to 4 weeks, I do not think the Phillies will be affected by his injury. They have such a deep team and before you know it, Rollins will be back in the lineup.

Tiger Woods Comes Up Short at the Masters

After a five month layoff, Tiger Woods made his return to the Masters. Leading up to the major, sports talk radio people speculated on how he would play and interact with the crowd

I believe Tiger played well. He finished fourth on the leaderboard and gave the other players good competition. I didn't believe Tiger would win it because he hadn't played in awhile, but with time, I think he will get to the top again.

I also think Tiger interacted well with the crowd. Once he received cheers from the crowd, he seemed a lot more comfortable. He was smiling and it looked like he was glad to be back. Everybody deserves a second chance and the people at the Masters did the right thing.

Tiger has filed papers to play in the U.S. Open and he will definitely be a force to be reckoned with.
